João Pedro Martins
I study international institutions and the politics of international cooperation.
I am a PhD student in Government and the Karl W. Deutsch Fellow at Harvard University, specializing in International Relations. I am interested in the design and functioning of international organizations, political interactions within them, and their implications for international cooperation.
Before Harvard, I received my B.A. in International Relations from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, in 2025.
Institutions and cooperation
My current research examines elections and political coordination within the United Nations system. More broadly, I am interested in how institutional rules and political bargaining shape decision-making in international organizations.
Research and publicationsBeyond research
I am originally from Saquarema, a coastal town near Rio de Janeiro. Outside academia, I enjoy concerts, literature, and experimenting with desserts from different culinary traditions.
